Pinned It, Did it!!! Chocolate-Cherry Cake From a Box (Shhhhhhhh!)

I went out on a limb and tried a new Pinterest recipe for my husband’s birthday.  A huge, undeniable success.  A few of my children even told me it was the best cake I ever made – and I’ve made lots of cakes.  Granted, most of them have been right out of a box, but . . .

. . . so was this one!  Well, at least it started with a box mix.

But this was no ordinary cake!!!

And it was undeniably easy.

Think devil food cake mix, almond flavoring, cherry pie filling, mixed and baked and then glazed with cocoa, powdered sugar, vanilla and butter.  It reminded me a lot of a Texas sheet cake, only much, MUCH yummier.

The bonus with this recipe is that it is a GREAT cake to make with kids.  There are few ingredients to measure, and there are several opportunities to mix, pour and dump.

C is for CAKE pops

I had written a lovely post about our first attempt at making cake pops, but somewhere between hitting publish and making it to my blog home page, it got lost in cyberspace.  I REALLY don’t like it when that happens!!!!

So, I’ll reload the picture and summarize.

Summary:  Work, work, work.  The 10-year-old, 8-year-old and 7-year-old join in.  Fun, fun, fun.  Mess, mess, mess.  Clean up, clean up, clean up.  Clean up, clean up, clean up.  Yum, yum, yum!!!

Cutest Bear Snack EVER

I found the cutest little snack I’ve ever seen on Pinterest last night.  One trip to HEB yielded a bag of mini 3 Musketeers, a box of M&Ms, and a box of Teddy Grahams.  I added some candy buttons to the stash for headlights and some chocolate melts for “glue”, and whala:

The original directions for these are over at http://planningwithkids.com/2009/05/27/milky-way-cars/.  They were SOOO easy.  Eden, Andres, Leah and I had a whole tray done in about ten minutes.  I deviated just slightly from the original directions by adding the candy buttons for headlights.  Very fun and very yummy!  Even Daddy Bear was impressed, and it takes A LOT to impress Daddy Bear.
